This project for our customer in Thames Ditton involved a complete re-design of the rear of their large garden creating a new patio area, pergola, pond and pathways to create a more usable space for the customer.
We created pathways leading up to the new patio area using bricks and infill gravel. We had to prepare a subbase using membrane and type1 crushed concrete, then topped with 20mm gravel for the finish. The border is a brick finish to tie in with the overall design.
We installed a simple fan shaped pergola to cover the main patio area, this was a bespoke make and overlooks the pond in the centre of the main patio area.
The patio area we created was approximately 5m x 6.5m. To supply and install Geo membrane which prevents the subbase from mixing with the soil. To supply and install 150mm type 1 subbase which was compacted with our Wacker plate machine.
To supply and install approximately 32.5 sqm of Indian Sandstone which was laid on a wet mortar bed. A slurry primer was used on each slab to insure the longevity of the installation.
The slabs were pointed with a resign based pointing compound to ensure the longevity of the patio area and to withstand jet washing unlike mortar pointing does. The sandstone paving was bordered with a clay brick finish.
We created a new pond area which was 1.62m x 1.62m in size. This was a square pond situated within the main patio area as per the design. Edging with the same brick used throughout the project.
Oak sleepers were installed around both bay trees to create natural looking flower beds.
