This project in Cobham involved the complete transformation of a long side access and rear patio area. Our goal was to create a seamless, modern finish using high-quality porcelain paving, while ensuring a solid subbase and proper drainage throughout.
We began by excavating the full working area and preparing a firm foundation. A Geo membrane was laid to prevent the subbase from mixing with the existing soil. We then supplied and compacted 150mm of type 1 crushed concrete using a Wacker plate, ensuring a stable base ready for paving.
As part of the groundworks, we carefully exposed and worked around existing drain access points. These were set to the new finished height and integrated neatly within the paving layout to maintain full access while blending into the overall design.
We installed approximately 45 sqm of light grey porcelain paving to create a clean, contemporary finish. Each tile was laid on a full wet mortar bed with a slurry primer applied to the underside of every slab to maximise adhesion and longevity.
The paving was completed using a resin-based jointing compound for a sharp, durable finish that can withstand pressure washing and heavy use, unlike traditional mortar pointing.
The result is a sleek, low-maintenance outdoor space with a crisp edge finish. The porcelain tiles reflect light beautifully and elevate the entire garden setting. This transformation not only added visual appeal but also improved drainage and usability throughout the property.
